Petrochemicals – Brazil – Beraca Water Technologies’ chlorine sales forecast to rise 20% in 2011
Beraca Water Technologies, a Brazilian supplier of chlorine and derivatives, expects sales to increase 20% in 2011 as a result of government investments in water and sanitation, the firm’s water treatment specialist, Joгo Luis dos Santos, told BNamericas in an emailed response to questions without providing hard figures.
Investments in infrastructure, which includes water supply and sanitation, are expected to receive a boost from works in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, as well as from the federal government’s growth acceleration plan (PAC).
Such projects will have a positive impact on overall chlorine demand in the country this year, with consumption forecast to grow by approximately 5% compared with 2010, national association of chloralkali industries Abiclor president, Anнbal do Vale, told BNamericas recently.
Beraca Water Technologies projects sharp sales increases in the near future, despite growth tending to stabilize as the populations’ needs are met. In five years, the executive projects that sales to the water and sanitation sectors will double “since Brazil still lacks proper sanitation infrastructure,” he said.
The company currently supplies 17 Brazilian states and exports to Africa and, in Latin America, Peru and Paraguay.
Also in the pipeline for the firm is a new program aimed at bringing treated water to rural areas. “Beraca will launch this program very shortly. We are settling the final partnerships, which will include public and private companies,” Santos added.
Beraca Water Technologies supplies chlorine gas in cylinders, chlorine tablets, sodium hypochlorite, poly-aluminum chloride, ortho-polyfosfate, polymers and flocculants, in addition to a range of services.
The firm is a unit of Brazilian company Beraca, specialized in developing technologies, solutions and high-performance raw materials for the water treatment, animal nutrition and health markets, and for the cosmetics, food and beverage industries.
Water Technologies accounts for 65% of Beraca’s annual revenues.
