Petrochemicals – Mexico – Pemex’s petchem trade surplus hits US$58mn in January-July
Mexico’s state oil company Pemex posted a US$58mn trade surplus in petrochemical products in January-July compared with a surplus of US$700,000 in the same period last year.
Exports in the first seven months totaled US$147mn and imports US$89.4mn, compared with US$68mn and US$67.3mn, respectively, in January-July 2009, according to statistics on the company’s website.
In July alone, the company reported a surplus of US$6.2mn, down from the US$8.7mn posted in the prior-year period. Last month, exports summed US$23.6mn and imports US$17.4mn compared with US$16.8mn and US$8.1mn, respectively, a year earlier.
VOLUMES
Pemex exported 427,200t in the first seven months of this year and imported 149,000t of petrochemicals compared with 378,000t and 203,300t, respectively, in January-July 2009.
Last month, exports totaled 70,000t and imports 33,600t, while a year earlier the company shipped 73,700t aboard and imported 17,000t.
Pemex’s petrochemicals arm is called PPQ.
