— Gov. Pat Quinn has named a current Illinois Department of Transportation official to oversee the agency as acting secretary.
Quinn announced Friday that IDOT Chief of Operations Ann Schneider will replace outgoing transportation Secretary Gary Hannig, who retired.
Hannig was appointed transportation secretary in 2009, after serving as a member of the Illinois House since 1979.
Quinn says IDOT needs a capable leader as it heads into a busy construction season. Schneider will oversee more than $2.5 billion in capital projects.
She has served as IDOT’s operations chief since 2010. She previously served five years as director and chief financial officer for IDOT’s Office of Finance and Administration.
