Oil & Gas – Ecuador – First groups register for 10th licensing round

All acreage being offered in Ecuador’s 10th licensing round has attracted interest from the first groups to register, the round’s coordination office from the non-renewable natural resources ministry’s hydrocarbons department told BNamericas.

The ministry last month issued the international call for bids for blocks Armadillo, Chanangue, Charapa, Eno-Ron, Ocano-Peсa Blanca and Singue.

Groups that have registered and purchased documents to date are Sertecpet, Consorcio Okeme (Sertecpet-Cantбrida), Sertecpet y Conacol, and Petrobell y Otras, according to information from the office.

The participation fee is US$10,000/block and offers are due August 26. <

HCL denies News International ‘data destruction’ claim 

During yesterday’s emergency House of Commons debate on alleged phone hacking by the News of the World newspaper, Labour backbencher Tom Watson made the following statement under parliamentary privilege.

“I believe that the police should ask [News International chariman] Mr James Murdoch and [former News of the World editor] Rebekah Brooks whether they know of the attempted destruction of data at the HCL storage facility in Chennai, India,” he said.

Petrochemicals – Argentina – A Schulman buys majority stake in Surplast for US$1.1mn

US performance plastics company A Schulman (Nasdaq-GS: SHLM) has entered into an agreement to buy a 51% interest in Argentine rotational molding materials maker Surplast for US$1.1mn, the former said in a statement.

The remainder of Surplast is owned by Alta Plastica, one of the largest distributors of resins in Argentina.

“We are the leading supplier of specialty powders in the world and our partnership with Surplast will enhance our ability to provide products for the rotational molding industry throughout South America and better serve our customers in countries such as Chile, Uruguay and Argentina,” said Gustavo Pйrez, A Schulman’s COO for the Americas.
